“Don’t tell me what you’re doing.
Tell me what you’ve stopped doing.”
– Peter Drucker
(Gratitude and appreciation to Rod Leaverton for the above.)
Is waste the default?
I’m afraid that for many of our teams, it is.
Work gets assigned (or picked up) on impulse, hangs over heads for months on end, and then what is there to show for it?
…
These things will drag on for years if we let them!
Change it forever.
For every effort launched, get answers to these questions:
What do we want to do?
Why does that make sense?
What results do we predict?
When can we check for those results?
Schedule a meeting for #4. Copy the answers above into the calendar invite.
Fast forward.
In that meeting, ask:
Did our prediction come true?
What does this say about whether we should continue?
Then, if appropriate, kill the work.
What it’s costing you now
1 bad project that just won’t die
8 people
5 hours of work per week, each
That’s €12,465 / $14,500 / £10,805 per quarter.
Yes, enough to hire another person.
And just think, how many bad projects are there, really?
And hit reply if you’ve got questions or comments.
