Water is wet, grass is green, and the sun comes up every morning.

As certain as we are of these, we can be equally sure of this…

Our teams will bring us problems, and we will be tempted to solve them.

Sometimes we must act! But often, it is better to resist the urge.

What we choose to not do is leadership, too.

This non-doing is not neglectful or “checking out.” When approached as active, watchful engagement, the decision not to intervene is no less real than a direct intervention.

What does it feel like?

Like diverting water with your hands. Like listening actively, and holding space.

What does it feel like to you?
